Taking Berlin’s post-war social housing as its starting point, the design studio and accompanying seminar explored a radical proposition: making a home in a bunker. Students examined how everyday life, privacy and community might be organised underground, under conditions that fundamentally challenge our understanding of living well. Amid renewed fears of war, the studio posed an uncomfortable question: should we learn to live in bunkers, or work towards a world in which we do not need them? Spatial experimentation combined with pacifist critique: architecture should make room for life – and challenge the normalisation of war. The projects shown are the work of the students. Antonio Festa conceived and led the studio and accompanying seminar.
