Student Housing Ludwig-Renn-Straße

Five buildings with a total of 255 residential units complement the adjoining park. The ensemble combines an extension to housing for older people with subsidised housing. One of the five buildings was developed as student housing and received funding through the German federal Variowohnungen programme. The programme explored affordable, adaptable housing for students and trainees. Modular layouts allow self-contained units to be combined into larger apartments. Double-height shared spaces provide room to gather and socialise. Hybrid timber construction and prefabrication underpin the structural approach. The role at Thoma Architekten covered design through technical design, HOAI stages 1-5.
