The five-storey school building in Berlin-Friedrichshagen is being renovated, extended and adapted for use as a primary school. The intervention takes the existing fabric as its starting point, reorganising circulation and integrating additional uses into the building’s spatial structure. The project includes a lift, accessible bathrooms and care facilities, additional classrooms, and a dining hall with a multipurpose area. These changes expand the spaces available for teaching and shared activities while addressing accessibility and the practical requirements of everyday school life. A two-court sports hall is planned within the grounds, complementing the facilities in the existing building. The role at Thoma Architekten was construction supervision in HOAI stage 8.
